The food additive MSG (Mono-Sodium Glutamate) is a slow poison. MSG hides behind 25 or more names, such as Natural Flavoring." MSG is even in your favorite coffee from Tim Horton's and Starbucks coffee shops! I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, and so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo in Ontario , Canada , and spent years working for the government. He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America .. In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so scientists have to create them. They make these creatures morbidly obese by injecting them with MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and perhaps humans) to become obese. They even have a name for the fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats." When I heard this, I was shocked. I went into my kitchen and checked the cupboards and the refrigerator. MSG was in everything -- the Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, and Kraft salad dressings, especially the "healthy low-fat" ones. The items that didn't have MSG marked on the product label had something called "Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein," which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. MSG is hidden under many different names in order to fool those who read the ingredient list, so that they don't catch on. (Other names for MSG are "Accent, "Aginomoto," "Natural Meat Tenderizer," etc.) But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items contained MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough, MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere. Burger King, McDonald's, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant -- even the sit-down eateries like TGIF, Chili's, Applebee's, and Denny's -- use MSG In abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing. and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin -- their secret spice was MSG! So why is MSG in so many of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative, or a vitamin? Not according to my friend John Erb. In his book The Slow Poisoning of America , he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body. Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more. A study of the elderly showed that older people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobbying group says eating more is a benefit to the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us? "Betcha can't eat [just] one," takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned! And we wonder why the nation is overweight! MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added. Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance. Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago,MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the re-packaged meals, soups, snacks, and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday. The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount. But how can they claim it's safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these: "The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity." Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002. "Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats." Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori C, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro. Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug. 'Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: An animal model of multiple risk factors." Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima. Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar. "Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obe sity." Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K Kusunoki. Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct. No, the date of that last study was not a typo; it was published in 1978. Both the "medical research community" and "food manufacturers" have known about the side effects of MSG for decades. Many more of the studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to diabetes, migraines and headaches, autism, ADHD, and even Alzheimer's. So what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping this fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see? Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada. While he was sitting in the go vernment office, the official told him, "Sure, I know how bad MSG is. I wouldn't touch the stuff." But this top-level government official refuses to tell the public what he knows. The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin. The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it. Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive. But what can I do ABout it? I'm just one voice! What can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while our governments are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us? This message is going out to everyone I know in an attempt to tell you the truth that the corporate-owned politicians and media won't tell you. The best way you can help to save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic is to forward this article to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before politicians can pass the legislation protecting those who are poisoning us. The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on nicotine? If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine at www.pubmed.com. Type in the words "MSG Obese" and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear. We the public do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, feeding the food industry's bottom line while waiting for the heart transplant, the diabetic-induced amputation, blindness, or other obesity-induced, life-threatening disorders. With your help we can put an end to this poison. Do your part in sending this message out by word of mouth, e-mail, or by distribution of this printout to your friends all over the world and stop this "Slow Poisoning of Mankind" by the packaged food industry. Blowing the whistle on MSG is our responsibility, so get the word out. With regards,
RK Mehta,
I decided to print this email that I received the other day for many reasons. I was intending to do an article on Obesity in children because of some blurb I'd heard on the tv the other day. The Blurb was something to do with the schools sending home reports on your childs weight. The hair on the back of my neck bristled. Then I got this MSG email. Personally I've suspected things such as MSG, Hydrogenated oils, and modified corn starch of being nasty, nasty things for years. Why? Well just read the labels on your food. You will find these things in just about every item on the food shelves these days in one form or another. We are feeding these things to our kids and we are also stuffing them in our own bodies and we're not questioning or demanding better from anyone. I think it's time we did. I also think that instead of the damn schools sending home reports on our children's weight perhaps they need to put their money where their mouths are too. Teach the children. Not just about diet and exercise but show and encourage them how to cook! Get decent home-economic programs back in the school! People bitch and moan about obesity in adults and kids but no one seems to be raising a stink about their kid not knowing how to cook a proper meal for themselves! Reading a package before you pop it in the microwave isn't going to do squat if it's full of nasties. Eating less of it isn't going to do a whole heck of a lot either. If you can teach the kids from a young age how to cook a decent wholesome meal or how to prepare in advance for one perhaps people would cut down on the garbage they by precooked, preserved and prepoisoned in the stores. While the players (like Pacman Jones) may not be good enough for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the NFL season begins this Thursday night (Sept 10th). Hurry on over to The Sports Center, where you can pick all the weekly winners (in Guess the NFL), just a few of them (in Pick-3), or even guess a team to lose (in Luck Loser). Play early, play often! Meanwhile in baseball, after narrowly defeating Triceratops last week, Bald Eagles moves on to face Silas' Norse Leprechauns in the semifinals this week. Also falling in the quarterfinals were stroker's valiant WaveDancers.

From the time I first tasted tacos as a child I fell in LOVE! As I have gotten older I still love them but I've found that the packaged seasoning didn't seem to agree with me. Still tasted wonderful but I seemed to have minor reactions to it. Sometimes I'd find my hands and feet would swell or I'd end up with a nasty case of stomach cramps which lead to long sits in the bathroom. I swear it was from the MSG in the store bought mixtures. This was not exactly how I wanted to enjoy my evening after a delicious meal so I went on a hunt to find a seasoning recipe with out the added MSG. Low and behold and thanks to the internet I've found one that's perfect! So here's my recipe. I usually make a whole whack of it to store in a jar in the cupboard. Taco Seasoning.
2 tablespoon chili powder
This seasoning mixture can be added to 1 - 1 1/2 lbs of ground beef depending on your tastes. EnJoy
The leaves and the juice from the stem of Jewelweed are used by herbalists to cure poison ivy and other plant induced rashes, as well as many other types of dermatitis. Jewelweed works by counter-reacting with the chemicals in other plants that cause irritation. Poultices and salves from Jewelweed are a folk remedy for bruises, burns, cuts, eczema, insect bites, sores, sprains, warts, and ringworm.
This is a weed/wild flower that grows in abundance along road banks and just about everywhere else in the mountains. Wherever you find them growing, there will be a thicket of them, taller than your knees. The plant is a succulent annual ands dies back immediately at the slightest fall frost. In the summer, they are covered with beautiful blooms. There are two varieties; one that blooms yellow and one that blooms bright orange. Both varieties have pods which when mature burst suddenly upon being touched, hence the common name of "Touch Me Not." The blooms resemble snapdragons but are suspended from the plant on delicate little thread-like supports. Being beautiful isn't all there is to the Jewelweed. If you have ever accidentally brushed against the Stinging Nettle Plant, you know the results. Immediately the spot will start itching and burning and may even blister if you are particularly sensitive. Curiously, as if Mother Nature planned it, Jewel Weed usually grows near Stinging Nettles and it is said if you immediately rub the foliage of the Jewel Weed on the spot, the itching and stinging will go away. The American Indians also used it as a cure for poison oak by squeezing the juice from the Jewel Weed on the affected area. I've also read stories of old wives mixing it with lard. Not pretty to smell, but it sure worked! The name "jewelweed" comes from the water-repellent quality of the leaves, which causes dew and rain to bead up and sparkle in the sun. If you’re afflicted by poison ivy, poison oak, or athlete’s foot, relief may sometimes be had by crushing jewelweed stems and applying the sticky paste to affected areas. I recommend that anyone spending much time in the woods become familiar with this plant, learn to find it and identify it. It can save you a lot of trouble and even a ruined day or vacation trip as well as the expense of prescription cures. Look it up on line, find someone who can show it to you or buy a field guide to plants. It may be well worth it to you some day. Ishmael
If you were born between August 23-September 22, you have been born under the sign of Virgo.
Virgo is a very independent zodiac sign and great thinkers to a fault at times. They may tend to over complicate things because they just think to much. People tend to look up to Virgos because they are good problem solvers. Virgos tend to honest, loyal and truthful but they can be a bit distant none the less. Virgos are not run by their emotions so you’ll find them more logical than some. Your Virgo friend can be a bit controlling since they figure they know what’s best for you. Be patient with your Virgo friend and understand that their recommendations are only to make your life better. Don't forget to visit me at the Mystic Rose for your free readings!

Aries: This period brings about pleasant feelings between you and your mate. Your relationship will be emotionally satisfying to you, and there will be opportunities to grow closer to each other through expressing your deepest inner feelings. Although there is a protective quality about the relationship now, you can rely upon your partner to be trustworthy, devoted and appreciative toward you. You are attracted to the more traditional, committed style of companionship and may prefer to spend time with your mate in a secure and comfortable domestic environment. Taurus: Use common sense and good judgment in your personal and professional affairs during this time. There may be a tendency to overextend your energies toward far-reaching goals which causes you to avoid responsibilities in your current work or social involvements. You can underestimate the quantity of time and effort needed to accomplish your projects, desires and inner visions. Problems related to work, legal affairs, or with educational or religious activities are likely. You need to develop a realistic and practical sense with regard to your ideals and objectives. Try to use a more logical approach in your search for new and adventurous possibilities. Gemini: You will want to express your most favorable side to your mate or marriage partner. You are more apt to seek romantic and domestic security and encourage more cooperation and equality in the relationship. The behavior and actions of your mate or spouse may influence your own personal affairs, and you find yourself acting out a role which suits your partner's image. You should be especially careful not to let your mate take advantage of your good nature and sensitivity. If at the present time you are unmarried or unattached, this period may bring a new love relationship which has a sense of commitment and devotion from the very start or provides you with new views on marriage and relationships. Cancer: You may have the advantage of keeping other people from getting in the way of your work and personal goals now. Their contact would be helpful now, but you may determine it is best to keep certain facets of your business and personal affairs to yourself. It may be that you are more focused and devoted to your own well-being, so any commitment or dedication outside of your personal or vocational needs has no purpose for you. However self-absorbing this sounds, it can still be a fortunate period in which to find your own satisfaction and rewards in your work and personal endeavors. Leo: Extra responsibilities may appear now regarding your family or domestic life. At this time you may find increased demands placed upon you with regard to nurturing, caretaking, or domestic concerns. You find it difficult to decline the needs of loved ones, leading you to feel overburdened with responsibilities. Balancing your own interests with loved ones is difficult to achieve at this time. Personal overindulgence in areas in which you nurture yourself, such as overeating, self-pampering or exaggerated possessiveness toward your loved ones will become annoying to others. Someone living at a distance, a relative or friend, may cause you concern and you may feel obligated to provide them with either personal, emotional, or financial assistance. Virgo: Your desire to achieve personal ambition is highlighted. The ability to handle responsibilities and outline definite goals and purposes is important to you. Your emotions are kept under control and your accomplishments will provide you with a strong sense of self-worth. Leadership roles are likely, as you feel it is your duty to protect and serve others. Important opportunities may present themselves which require commitment on your part. You feel extremely responsible and protective toward your loved ones. There may be a situation where you are obligated to provide care for an elderly parent or loved one and you handle this role with reliability and patience. This can be a time when children face many responsibilities and demanding school situations and you may be called in to provide assistance in helping them. In addition, you have the motivation to further your goals and objectives with respect to your public image. Libra: This is a good time to work on personal as well as business matters. You may feel like doing something that stimulates your ego drives or get passionately involved in a special interest, project, or activity at this time. It is likely you will have enough energy and motivation to carry out your desires and ambitions. However, the urge to work independently or without much involvement with other people may be very strong now. Although this may be a productive period in which you can accomplish a great deal, it is still important to maintain close ties and relationships with others. Scorpio: You learn a lot about your own triggers and defense mechanisms during this period. You may have to deal with a few quarrels and confrontations now. All of your emotions are brought forth and intensified. If you have been harboring anger and resentment against someone, it is likely to surface at this time. The reverse is also possible. You may find others airing their grievances or in more of an argumentative mood than usual. Your ideas and efforts can meet with resistance and you may find it difficult to cooperate with others if you feel your own plans and intentions will suffer. You may just go ahead and do as you want regardless of how others feel or not concern yourself with the consequences of your actions. In some cases, wounded pride, an injury, or minor illness can force you to reexamine certain behaviors and activities which need self-discipline or constructive changes. Sagittarius: This period can bring stability and endurance to your marital or love relationship. Bonds of affection and intimacy are strengthened and it becomes easier to find reasonable and workable solutions to any difficulties you may be undergoing in a partnership. Commitment, loyalty, and devotion flourish in a solid and secure relationship. This can be a time when you have an opportunity to marry or make a lasting commitment to an individual whom you love and cherish. If already married, your union is afforded a second chance or a renewal of love, faith, and happiness now. Taking responsibilities and obligations with a more serious and mature attitude helps you learn and grow at this time. If you are unattached, you may develop a friendship with someone which grows into a strong love or you may begin a significant love relationship during this period. Capricorn: This period may be spent trying to settle disputes or putting your affairs in order. Be wary, however, as you may have a tendency now to be overzealous when talking to others or not exhibiting enough restraint in certain situations. Your good judgment is needed in order to resolve differences with a friend, relative, or loved one. Reacquaint yourself with your intuition, instincts, and inner wisdom now, as you might gather some fresh insight into improving your communicating and relating skills. You are more clear and objective about personal matters and your relationships, so this is a favorable time to iron out differences or come to a decision. Communicating openly with loved ones, taking a trip to visit friends, or going on an outing accompanied by one you love figures prominently now. Aquarius: Your focus is on love or a primary romantic relationship at this time. An enthusiastic or wholehearted approach to your partnership is one way in which you will express your feelings to a mate or lover. You may give the impression now that you are seeking more fulfillment, commitment, stability, and teamwork in love relationships. You will go that extra mile to insure that you can be relied upon to deliver any promises, pledges, or obligations in the partnership. If you are unattached at the present time, you may attract a new love interest or search earnestly for a meaningful relationship. Also, this period can bring an increased need for security in both job-related and financial affairs. Pisces: You may feel like rolling up your sleeves and getting some important work accomplished now. In your determination to achieve recognition and self-importance, it is essential that you are not indifferent to the needs and desires of others. If you concentrate wholeheartedly on your own purposes, you may succeed in attaining your goals, but at the expense of alienating yourself from close relationships. Family members and loved ones may feel that you have substituted work or other commitments for times of fun, play and entertainment with them. Disagreements can arise if you try to cover up or make excuses for your behavior. You may seem so intent on your personal fulfillment that you attract difficulties with co-workers, superiors and authority figures who challenge your work ethics or principles. -Deborah Browning
